Dear People of Action,
On Monday, January 16th, to celebrate Martin Luther King Day, our Club members will assemble in the EMU Student Center Ballroom instead of in our usual venue for lunch. Always a wonderful event, the keynote speaker, Sampson Davis MD, promises to be especially interesting this year! You must follow this link https://emich.ludus.com/index. php to buy your community member ticket, which will cost $30. If you qualify for a cheaper ticket as faculty or a student, try to join your Rotary colleagues at our table anyway! When buying your ticket, click on one of the orange dots to join us at Table 54. Tickets are selling fast, so don't delay! See you there on Monday!
Our Beer and Cider Tasting Fundraiser is January 19th, 7- 8:30 PM at the Corner Brewery (now Arbor Brewing Company) at 720 Norris Street in Ypsilanti. Please share the invitation with all of your friends and neighbors NOW, if you haven't already! People who like beer will love this opportunity to try 5 different brews in a party atmosphere!
At last Monday's meeting we threw $13 into the coffers for Lucky Bucks! Our "ghost" member Nicole Sigler was congratulated in absentia for earning her Paul Harris Fellow pin! Our Treasurer Scott Bland volunteered to lead the 5th Monday Social Hour in my absence – thanks Scott! He will let you know the location when he has secured it. Akiba shared that there will be swim lessons for kids at Rutherford Pool this summer. They will be looking for volunteers to help kids one on one, as there have actually been several drownings during swim lessons in the past! Maria shared that the Bicentennial Committee Chair stepped down and there are now co-chairs. Plans are being made for nature walks and history walking tours. Perhaps Rotary would like to organize and sponsor a bike tour or a Meet Your Museums event? Les has us penciled in for a Pancake Breakfast fundraiser on August 19th if details can be worked out with the committee. There was some discussion of using the money raised for the Rick Easterbrook Fund, then additional discussion of the purpose of the fund. Les will look for the minutes of the Foundation Board meeting where purpose was discussed.
