Dear People of Action,

Join us next Monday March 13 at 5:30 PM as Jelani McGadney shares his story of the Rotary exchange student experience that helped define his life. He spent a year of his high schooling in Japan, compliments of the Milan Rotary Club.  Jelani would encourage us to consider sponsoring such an amazing experience for a current high school student! It's going to be an interesting talk, so don't miss it! Dennis Barksdale will also be inducted as our newest member at this meeting. Join us at the township Aubrees, 2122 Whittaker Road, in the VIP Room and plan to bring a friend!

Last Monday Matt MacDonell from the County Road Commission enlightened us on plans for the roads and bridges in Washtenaw County! The Commission is responsible for 1,650 miles of roads, 125 bridges and 31,000 signs! Matt told us Michigan is historically underfunded for infrastructure. Vehicle Registration fees go to roads, as does 28.6 cents per gallon of your gas money. But this does not begin to cover the mounting costs of maintenance. Matt says we're smart in Washtenaw County to have supported and renewed 0.5 mils for infrastructure at the ballot box. So our County is actually making slow progress on needed repairs and replacement, compared to the rest of the State. Thanks for coming, Matt! We also collected $4 in Lucky Bucks, $1 in pin fines and participated with the Ypsilanti Kiwanis Club Dine and Donate event that afternoon.

Why should Black History be confined to the month of February? On March 20th at NOON I want to share my slides and story of the infamous Bunce Island, site of the last glimpse that thousands of Africans had of their homeland before being shipped out to lives of slavery and misery. It was a sad, sobering and interesting part of my recent visit to Sierra Leone. Save the date!
