On Monday evening, April 24th 5:50-6:30 PM, I will share my slides and story of the infamous Bunce Island, site of the last glimpse that thousands of Africans had of their homeland before being sent across the Atlantic Ocean to lives of slavery and misery. It was a sad and sobering but interesting part of my recent visit to Sierra Leone. Please join us at the township Aubrees, 2122 Whittaker Road in the VIP Room.
Liz Warren, the new director of the Riverside Arts Center (RAC), was our guest last week. Unfortunately, I had to leave the meeting before she spoke. Fortunately, Steve was able to lead the meeting in my absence and took good notes! Liz is passionate about community development and service, really likes Ypsilanti and likely will remain here for years to come. Her paternal family was prominent in business and she gained significant interpersonal and leadership skills by working with her father. The RACs main theme is "Growing Hope" which is the same as Rotary International. They seek to empower young people with leadership skills, similar to ROTORACT. RAC would like to utilize their building's top floor, possibly for rent. They may have a tenant who could monitor the building, helping to expand "open" weekday hours.
