Dear People of Action,
Alert! It has come to my attention that some members are not getting their meeting reminders because they are going into the SPAM file. So todays notification is being sent to you by both Rotary ClubRunner and ALSO by ordinary email (thanks, Kara!) If you only see the email version, please check your SPAM file for the ClubRunner version and re-direct it out of SPAM and back to your regular email so future reminders will not be lost in SPAM! Thank you!
On Monday, October 17th at 5:30 PM our very own Al Rudisill will tell us the interesting origin story of EMU's School of Technology! Established in 1980, Al was chosen from a field of 70 candidates to be its first and formative Dean! In 2019, this School was re-named the College of Engineering and Technology. Join us in person to hear all about it at the township Aubrees, 2122 Whittaker Road in the VIP Room, or ZOOM in with this link: https://us05web.zoom.us/j/ 83357257075?pwd= TVRIQ2F6c0NVaUhOT2h4djY4UEd1dz 09
Last Monday, guest speakers Jeff Licthy and Mary Sloan brought a Shelter Box so we could check it out! Invented in 1999 by a retired British naval officer as a way of restoring hope and dignity to disaster survivors, over 100,000 of these boxes have now been distributed around the globe! The contents of a box include a tent, cooking pots, a water filter, tools, blankets and sleeping bags. They are pre-assembled by volunteers and pre-positioned around the world so they are never far from the next disaster. There is some customization for the anticipated geography of use, such as mosquito netting in boxes destined for the tropics and insulating floor mats for cold climates. The cost is still $1000 apiece. We have supported this project in years past. Let's consider doing it again!
Halloween approaches, and so does our Fifth Monday Halloween Party! Start getting your costume ready, and plan to bring a guest!
In Rotary Service,
Cheryl Farmer
